Feather shuttles fly and slow the way the game is designed around, and are what any competitive session uses. They also break - a hard session can go through several tubes. Nylon shuttles last far longer and cost far less per session, which makes them the sensible choice for training, casual play and beginners still finding the middle of the racket.

Speed matters in Malaysia. Shuttles are graded 76, 77, 78 and so on, and the number is a response to air density: warm, humid air carries a shuttle further, so Malaysian halls generally suit a slower shuttle than the same brand's European grading. An air-conditioned hall shifts it again. If you are unsure which speed your regular court wants, ask - it is the kind of thing we get asked weekly.
